Frequently Asked Questions
How confidential is what I discuss with you?
What you discuss with me in your counselling is confidential, however there are some limitations to confidentiality that I will explain fully should we meet.
How long is a session?
The initial session is for 30 minutes and is free of charge. Any further sessions are 50 minutes long.
How often would I need to come?
Most people attend once per week, however this can be less frequent depending on your needs.
What would happen in the first session?
The initial session is an opportunity to see if we both feel comfortable working together, we will look at why you are wanting counselling and what you are wanting to achieve from therapy. Following this session it is often a good idea to take a few days to think about whether you would like to continue and contact me again should you wish.
Can I stop at any time?
The simple answer is yes of course. However it is helpful to bear in mind that therapy is a very personal process and sometimes it is necessary to talk about painful feelings or difficult decisions, so you may go through a period of feeling worse than when you started. Although this is common and natural it may feel hard to continue but is usually worth the effort if you can.
How much will it cost?
The initial session of up to 30 minutes is free of charge with no obligation on either side. Fees for any further appointments will be charged at £47 each per 50 minute appointment. I ask for payment to be made by cash or cheque at the end of each session or by direct bank transfer within 24 hours of the appointment. Missed sessions will be charged for at 50% of the full fee unless at least 24 hours notice of cancellation is given. Prices are reviewed annually in April.
